“Stomp Out the Stigma” Mental Health Activity Fair

The Socorro County community is invited to an event aimed at raising awareness and providing resources for mental health. The “Stomp Out the Stigma” Mental Health Activity Fair will take place on Saturday, September 20, at the Magdalena Rodeo Grounds, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Organized by SCOPE Health Council, the event is designed to be “fun for the whole family,” offering a range of activities and services to promote well-being. The fair will feature a self-paced walk, activity tables, and games. For younger attendees, there will be bouncy houses and face painting. Food trucks will also be on-site.
In addition to the family-friendly activities, the fair will provide valuable public health services. The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) will be on hand to offer free flu vaccines. Attendees can also pick up free mental health journals.
The event will feature a series of scheduled sessions throughout the morning.
- 9 a.m.: A screening of the documentary “Screenagers,” which explores the impact of screen time on youth, families, and mental health. The film offers practical solutions to help children navigate the digital world.
- 10:30 a.m.: A one-hour QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training session. This course teaches participants how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, offer support, and connect someone in crisis to professional help. QPR is an evidence-based method for suicide prevention.
- 11:30 a.m.: A guided mindfulness space, offering a session to promote relaxation and mental clarity.
The “Stomp Out the Stigma” fair aims to reduce the barriers that often prevent people from seeking help for mental health concerns. By providing an accessible and engaging environment, the event hopes to foster open conversations and connect community members with vital resources.
