Robert Montoya

Robert Montoya, age 86, born to Hignio and Flora Montoya, and a resident of Socorro, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on June 2, 2025.
Robert is preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Candido Montoya; daughter, Debbie Montoya; and granddaughter, Tiffany Chew.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; son, Robert; daughters, Rita, Nadine, and Linda; sister, Emena Quinones; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Robert was a true cowboy and farmer and embodied every aspect of the lifestyle. He loved riding his horses, taking early morning trips to the ranch, and rounding up the cattle when the need arose. He’d tend to his vegetable gardens with an admirable green thumb, and harvest the alfalfa fields on his farm with true grit. Ranching and farming was where his heart was, and he was sure good at it!
Robert loved the simpler times, too. Sitting on the front porch “watching his alfalfa grow,’ warm Coors Light in hand. He was family oriented and would always be praying for everyone. He was a faithful man, often praying the rosary.
He enjoyed music. A true New Mexican, mariachi music, polkas, Antonio Aguilar, and country, were his favorites! He enjoyed watching NBA games, rodeo, and the PBR, on television. He liked taking drives around the ranch in his truck, “Mikie,” windows down and taking in his happy place.
Above all, Robert was a family man who was dedicated to his family and his faith. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and neighbor who will be truly missed and fondly remembered.
Services for Robert will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro, NM. A visitation will take place at 9:00 am, followed by the rosary at 9:30 am. Mass will then be held at 10:00 am. A reception will immediately follow the mass at the Parish Hall.
