Peter Vigil and the All Stars headline Socorro’s 4th of July celebration

Socorro is set to ignite the sky and stage with its annual 4th of July Celebration on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the city’s Rodeo and Sports Complex. This day-long, free event promises an unforgettable experience for all ages, featuring a dynamic lineup of music, family-friendly activities, and a dazzling fireworks display.
A collaborative effort presented by the City of Socorro, New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC), and the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series, the celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. and concludes at dusk with the breathtaking EMRTC fireworks show.
“We’re thrilled to bring a mix of beloved hometown favorites and exciting new faces to the stage this year,” New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series director Dana Chavez said. “We encourage everyone in the Socorro area to come out, celebrate the holiday with us, and make some fantastic memories.”

Music & Entertainment Lineup:
The musical festivities begin at 11 a.m. with the cherished Socorro Community Band, led by Dr. Eileen Comstock, performing a range of classical, patriotic, and contemporary tunes. The day’s diverse musical journey continues with:
12:15 p.m.: Western singer and entertainer Doug Figgs delivers a true taste of “Cowboy country.”
1:30 p.m.: Belen-based Zia Soul with Theresa Jaramillo Sanchez presents a variety show spanning country, Spanish, R&B, cumbias, and old-school hits.
3 p.m.: The Pacemakers take the stage with their popular country and variety songs.
4:30 p.m.: The Et Alia Belly Dancers, led by Julie Johnson, showcase various styles of this ancient dance form with captivating grace.
5:45 p.m.: This year’s headliner, Peter Vigil and the All Stars, renowned for their unique and crowd-pleasing sounds that have significantly impacted the New Mexico music scene.
7:45 p.m.: Local favorite Suavecito will perform their infectious rhythms, specializing in Tejano, cumbia, and Norteño, along with New Mexico Spanish, country, and classic rock.
The grand finale, a spectacular fireworks display from EMRTC, begins at 9:15 p.m., accompanied by the hard-driving rock-n-roll sounds of Socorro’s own guitar guru, Rob Lopez.

Activities & Amenities:
Beyond the stage, attendees can enjoy a variety of offerings:
Food and Drink Vendors will be on-site throughout the day.
Waterslides will provide refreshing fun from 1 to 6 p.m.
The Socorro Fire Department’s Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser invites participants to compete for prizes while supporting a great cause. Registration opens at 9 a.m., with the tournament kicking off at 10 a.m. The fee is $25 per person or $50 per team, with 50 percent of proceeds benefiting families affected by fire loss.
Location, Parking & Important Notes:
The event will be held at the Socorro Rodeo and Sports Complex, 1 Rodeo Drive. Admission is free, and free parking is available at the complex. Additionally, the Socorro Transportation Department will offer an hourly shuttle ride to and from the Socorro Plaza.
For those planning to camp, RV camping reservations are required ($30). Guests may tailgate and bring their own grills at their vehicles, or picnic on the soccer field. However, no grills or tent stakes are allowed on the soccer field itself.
Vendors still have an opportunity to participate; spaces are available for for-profit ($100) and nonprofit ($50) organizations. Interested vendors can email ccortez@socorronm.gov for more information.
Attendees are reminded to bring their own chairs, blankets, tarps, sunscreen, and dancing shoes. For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, personal fireworks, pets, alcohol, glass, and grills are strictly prohibited in the event area and on the soccer fields.
