Paul Lucero Jr.

April 6, 1938 – May 15, 2025

In Loving Memory of Paul Lucero Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Lucero Jr., who departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Magdalena, New Mexico, on April 6, 1938, to Pablo and Eufracia Lucero, Paul enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved parents, sisters Carol, Rose, Julia, Helen, and Theresa, brother Julian, and his cherished daughter, Rachel Eileen Lucero. He leaves behind his loving wife, Clara Lucero, and their four devoted children: Neva Montoya (married to David Montoya, with six children), Cindy Vinyard (married to Clay Vinyard, with four children), Pat Lucero (married to Theresa Lucero, with one child), and Matthew Lucero (married to Patricia, with seven children). He is also survived by his sister, Dina, who held a special place in his heart.

Growing up in Magdalena, Paul was known for his exceptional basketball skills and lifelong love for the Magdalena Steers. He married the love of his life, Clara Garcia, on June 28, 1958. Together, they created a beautiful family, enduring the heartbreak of losing their baby girl at five months old.

Paul dedicated 25 years to the Department of Transportation, followed by a decade of service as a bus driver for Magdalena Schools, where he drove children from Magdalena to Alamo. He found joy in every mile driven, always sharing kindness and a smile.

A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Paul was immensely proud of his family, which now includes 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way. His sweet spirit, patience, and dignity in facing life’s challenges inspired all who knew him.

Paul passed away at home, comforted by the knowledge that the Magdalena Steers baseball team had advanced to the state championship. He will be remembered for his love, strength, and the lasting impact he left on the hearts of his family and friends. Paul Lucero Jr. will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Magdalena Schools Fine Arts Center.
